I know the economy is rough right now, but if you’re looking to make money on the side, or even turn something into a full-time gig, here are some ideas that you can use.

Recycle

With so many people out of work these days, you may be looking for some ways to help make ends meet. One way is to recycle. While you can usually bring your cans and metal scrap to your municipality for recycling, why not sell it directly to the recycler? That’s what your city does, and you need money more than the city government does. You might think that cans won’t make a difference to you, but you’d be surprised how many aluminum cans your family goes through in a week. You can usually get forty to fifty cents per pound of cans when you take them in, so you’ll have some extra change in your pocket! If you or someone in your family has a job, see if they can collect cans from the workplace and bring them to you. Before you know it you could have a recycling empire.

Open your own business

A lot of new rules and fees have made selling used items more difficult than it used to be. You can still give it a try. If you are really up for a challenge, you can open an online store and buy products wholesale to sell to the world! It’s not very easy, but what good things in life are? If you’re willing to invest a lot of time and effort, opening your own store online might just pay off.

If resale isn’t your cup of tea, how about starting a business of another type?  You could be a consultant, an advisor, a trainer, or a tutor. If you are an artist, programmer, or writer, you could base your business on freelance work. You can find web sites and support groups that can offer support to a budding entrepreneur.

Seasonal work

Every time the census comes around, the government hires people in advance to do the work. Seriously, nothing is as good as government work: that’s why everyone wants to work for them! It’s easy money for little effort.

Other opportunities cycle through on a regular basis like delivering phone books, cutting grass, and shoveling snow. You can paint in the summer and put up holiday lights for people at the end of the year. Get creative because there are plenty of ways to earn extra money out there.
