How Can I Make Money?

Cutting the lawnOne of the keys to finding easy ways to earn extra money is to stick with things you know.  Don’t get in over your head, because then it isn’t easy anymore.  Here are some super simple services that nearly anyone can offer, and services that almost everyone needs.

Cleaning: Whether It be the elderly, busy full time mothers, or people who work 70 hours a week, there are lots of people out there who could use some help around the house.  It’s not a glamorous job, you will probably be scrubbing toilets, cleaning out fridges and hauling around a vacuum, but it’s a job that needs doing.  If you aren’t licensed, bonded and insured you will make less than a professional cleaning service, but ask for at least minimum wage and you will probably get it.

Pet Services: Because many people feel that their pets are part of their family you will probably need to start this one with people you know, and build your client base by word of mouth.  Offer to feed people’s pets at their home while they are out of town for the weekend.  Going to be gone longer than  a weekend?  Offer to watch their pets in your home, or to house sit for them.  Also, if you know someone who works long days you can offer your services to come at some point during the day and give the dog a walk or potty break.  There is also the ubiquitous pet cleanup service.  It isn’t pretty, but people are very willing to pay not to have to do it themselves.

Lawn Care: This is the time of the year that the leaves start falling.  It gets brisk outside but the lawn still needs to be watered.  Also, some people are ripping up dying gardens and planting bulbs for next year.  These are all services that can be offered, both around your neighborhood and further by word of mouth or advertising.  Of these three options this one will probably pay the best, given that it is manual labor, but it’s easy, rather mindless work that can be done quickly and on a flexible schedule.  Make sure you offer to bag up any grass clippings of leaves that you rake, leaving your work site clean and attractive will help to ensure that you get asked back!

Use these suggestions to help rake in a little extra dough.  Get the word out about your new services on social networking and advertising websites, or post fliers around your neighborhood and on local bulletin boards in hardware stores or grocery stores.
