Finding Government Job Openings

Are you looking for a government job?  If so, I wanted to tell you today on how you can find the perfect government job, and how you can increase your chances at landing a gig.  Before we start though, I wanted to let you know how you can potentially land the gig.

• Make sure you’re qualified: Like any other job, make sure that you read the description closely.  If you qualify, apply!  If you don’t, don’t waste their time by applying, you won’t be considered.
• Treat it like a regular job: A government job is no different than your private sector job.  Write up a nice resume, send in your application, and make sure that you follow up!  There’s no reason to be intimidated with the job process.
• Network: Again, like a regular job, you can land a government job if you network.  Do you know someone that works for the state, or city?  Ask them about the process, and see how they can get you in.

Where can I find a government job?

• Beyond.com: Great site that has more than a government job.  They pop up here, and there, but realize that it’s not 100% government jobs.
• USAJobs.gov: Easy search engine, and 99% of the time, you’re going to find a government job in your area.  Make sure that you’re qualified for the job though!
• FederalJobSearch.com: Simple job search, yet has a load of listings.  Browse by category.
• GOVTJobs.com: Another easy to use site.  Search what kind of job you want, and browse the results.

These are my favorite sites when looking for government job openings.  Now, I don’t have a government job, but have worked with people that have one.  These are some of the tips that they have handed to me.  Test your luck, work hard, and get hired!
