Easy Ways to Make Money in College

If you’re like the average college student, you are a little strapped for cash. So, you’d like to have a little more dough in your wallet. Here’s how you can get more money.

Tutoring

Is there a specific subject where you take interest and are well qualified?  Are you an upperclassman who is already most of the way through their major? You can help freshman and sophomores handle the classes that you have already gone through. Another way is to take very specific topics and tutor that specific topic. For example, being good at calculus can get you spare money if you find other people who need help with their calculus homework and studying for their calculus exams. Advertise on bulletin boards and get the word out that you’re willing to help others for a low hourly fee.

Giving Plasma

Plasma donors are compensated for their time.  Many college campuses are located near plasma donation centers because it is common for penniless college students to pick up $60 or so per week giving plasma. The initial screening takes time and requires immunization records, picture IDs, etc., but $60 per week makes up for the first session’s hassle.

Start Your Own Business

Yes, this sounds like a hassle. But, like the plasma donating, it requires an initial investment of time that will really pay off in the end.  Do you have a skill that you can market? Can you sew? Can you proofread quickly and/or thoroughly? Can you fix computers? Chances are that you already use this skill to help out your friends. That is unpaid labor. Why not make money of your skill set by charging for your services? Advertise around campus with low prices at first and slowly raise them. As more people find out about hiring you, the more business you will get and the higher you can charge.

Making money as a college student isn’t hard to do.  Set some time aside to put in some hours, help out others, and make money from your hobbies!
