A Customer Service Job Description

Applying for jobs can be a tough one, but if you’re looking to get a customer service job, and you want to know what the job entails, let me give you a quick little description on what the job is all about.

What is a customer service job?

A customer service representative is going to provide, and access information for any customer that may need it.  This is all going to depend on what kind of store you’re going to work with.  For example, if you work at a hardware store, you will have to answer questions regarding hardware, etc.

What are the main job tasks?

  • You’re going to have to deal with customers on a daily basis.  You will either communicate with them via e-mail, phone, or in person.
  • You will have to respond to any problem a customer may have.  For example, if they want a refund on a product.
  • You will have to process order forms, or orders that they may bring up to you.  If you work in retail, you may have to ring up orders at the cash register.  This will all depend on what the company’s policy is.
  • You will have to manage customer’s accounts.

What skills am I going to need for this job?

  • You will most likely need to posses cash register, or computer skills to process an order.
  • You will need to have a friendly attitude.
  • You will need to know how to communicate with any type of customer, both good, and bad.
  • You will have to analyze situations, and figure out which one is best for the customer.
  • You will have to be a hard worker, as well as motivated.

Every company is going to be different in terms of policy.  In order to get more advanced with the company that you’re untested in, you’re going to have to find out what the job entails.  This is something that you can ask during the job interview.
